ABOUT MURIWAI

Muriwai is a small settlement

Wind is a powerful element of living at Muriwai, on the West Coast of Auckland, New Zealand.  I live and work on a cliff edge and look out across pounding surf waves to the distant horizon. Wind draws surfers and other sporting people, as well as the famous gannets. The rawness and wildness make me feel close to elemental nature and this ignites my painting. 

 

For the past few years my aim was to represent the essence of what I saw, heard and felt at Muriwai.

 

This year I go beyond what I see, hear, and feel and explore the unseen and the imaginary. The Connection & Selves Series express this inwardness.
